PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) – Pirates top prospect Jameson Taillon got to watch Gerrit Cole make his debut this week, and joined Starkey, Miller and Mueller on The FAN to tell us what he saw and how that motivates him even more to make it to the big leagues.
Taillon said about Cole’s debut, “I was impressed. He went out there and…he did exactly what he always does, he comes at you with his best stuff. I don’t think he looked nervous at all. He handled it really well.”
When it comes to his journey to the majors, Taillon says watching a guy like Cole pitch for the Pirates shows him how reachable it is.
“It just kind of lets you see again how real it can be. It’s definitely a reachable goal and it’s a reachable dream,” he said. “It’s not too far off.”
Taillon also goes over what he has been working on this year and what he has improved upon.
“I think I’ve gotten a lot better in a bunch of different aspects,” Taillon said. “Number one, my preparation has gotten a lot better going into every start. I found the running I like to do between starts. Exactly how I like to throw my bullpens. My throwing program, my arm care, I’ve pretty much found out what I like to do and now I’m putting that into good use.”
On top of what he’s working on this year, Taillon also took a look back to what he learned about himself pitching in the World Baseball Classic where he competed against the team the United States put together and what it was like gaining that experience.
